Cambodian Volunteer Tours

The next tour will run from Sunday 23rd September - Sunday 7th October 2012

Mayibuye Cambodia is hosting a two-week volunteer tour and you have to opportunity to participate! Experience this beautiful country first hand with a group of passionate people like you. Explore the ancient temples, learn about Cambodia’s  history, experience Khmer culture close up, teach kids dance, art, life skills and English, stay overnight at the homes of local families, run weekend workshops for youth in a rural and disadvantaged community, visit villages well off the tourist trail and much more…

Applications will open towards the end of April.

South African Volunteering Tours

The next tour will run on from Saturday 1st December - Sunday 16th December 2012

Eat, dance, teach, live and learn with the local community. Join us in running arts, dance and life skills workshops with young people, and participate in traditional homestays where you will have a true South African experience.The tour will introduce you to the Zulu culture and the township lifestyle. You will have opportunity to make a significant impact at Mayibuye’s projects and assist to run a 3-day camp with 30 young people. The group will also volunteer at orphanages, crèches, schools, homelessness centres and employment training programs.You will learn about South Africa through cultural performances, township tours,  traditional healer readings and  visits to museums, which looks at both the Apartheid and the impact of HIV.

 Applications will open in June.

Overnight Cultural Stays - South Africa

You can book 2 day/1 night cultural experiences, and come learn from our South African team about Zulu culture and life in the townships. Day 1 Activities Include:

  • Tour of Hammarsdale Township, Mpumalanga guided by our fun and friendly South African Team
  • Visit local businesses and talk with the shop owners including bars, tuck shop, supermarkets, barber etc….
  • Try traditional dishes including Zulu burgers and braai’d mealies.
  • Learn about the issues and conditions facing South African township youth, families and communities
  • Volunteer work at a neighborhood crèche, play games and interact with the children
  • Visit Mayibuye’s after school project and meet our young enthusiastic dancers
  • Experience a Cultural Dance Show at local community hall, depicting the lives of Zulu Youth
  • Zulu and Local Dance Lesson taught by locals – Feel the rhythm and beats of African Music
  • Traditional home stay in Hammarsdale with a local family – Zulu families are very warm and welcoming, their homes are basic but clean and comfortable

    Day 2 Activities Include:

  • Start the day, the Zulu way :)
  • Visit local township schools, participate in cultural sharing workshops with the students and teachers
  • Ride in a South African Taxi to Lunch
  • Traditional Zulu Braai (BBQ) with the South African Team
  • A reading from a traditional fortune teller (Optional)
  • Opportunity to buy Zulu beaded jewelry, artwork, souvenirs
