Increasing young people’s connectivity with their community through creative activities which strengthen self-expression and pride.
In Brazil, dance and culture are very strong. However, many young people don’t have opportunities to learn and participate in classes to grow their skills. We run a Mayibuye Performance Troupe in Peppers, Great Sao Paulo Guarulhos. The program is designed to engage with local youth who have been displaced due to urbanisation. The weekly dance and life skills program runs on a Friday night at the Citizenship Integration Centre.
We have also run workshops for children and youth in Rochina Favela, Rio de Janeiro in partnerships with UMPMRS (Union of Women for the Improvement of Roupa Suja).
